Collection: Mata Ortiz Pottery

Mata Ortiz pottery, a hidden gem in the world of art and craftsmanship, has captivated collectors and enthusiasts alike with its exquisite beauty and rich history.

This unique art form emerged in the small village of Mata Ortiz, located in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua. The story of how this art form came to be is as captivating as the pottery itself.

In the 1970s, a young man Named Juan Quezada discovered ancient pottery shards in the desert near his village of Mata Ortiz. Inspired by these findings, he embarked on a journey to recreate the ancient techniques of the Paquime Indians who had inhabited the region centuries ago.

Through meticulous research and experimentation, Quezada not only resurrected the art of pottery but also added his own innovations, giving birth to what we now know as Mata Ortiz pottery.
