Antique Italian Leg Ex-Voto Amulet (Milagro)

This repousse' leg milagro or ex-voto piece from Italy is made from silver-plated brass.

'Ex-voto' is the Latin word that means ‘from the vow made’. These intricate devotional pieces were displayed in churches in thanksgiving where vows or prayers were answered for a miracle received. They are devotional objects or offerings to give thanks for a grace received. It is a centuries old European tradition and these offerings can still be seen today in many old churches in Europe. 

This ex-voto is vintage or antique, therefore it goes without saying that there may be some imperfections. It shows signs of age & long term use and has 2 small holes: one in the foot & one at the top of the leg. There is age related tarnish on the silver which can be polished but we prefer to leave the beautiful patina intact ( and let the customer polish if they wish).
