From the southern Egyptian oasis of Siwa, the hilal pendant is a very stylized version of a protection amulet known as a hamsa or hand. Worn to protect against the djinn spirits of the desert and also as a sign of motherhood, this necklace is strung on 9 strands of coral separated by double strands of onyx beads and accented with hand hammered sterling silver beads. The hamsa pendant is framed by two lovely hammered silver beads and the closure is a flat lapis bead and macrame loop for a very polished look
