This collectible Zuni fetish pot by Mary Tsikewa (daughter of famed carver Teddy Weahkee) beautifully blends tradition and artistry. Eight fetishes adorn the vessel—four encircling the top and four fox carvings along the lower band—each carefully affixed with leather with turquoise, heishi beads and feathers. In Zuni belief, the fox symbolizes guidance and protection, giving this piece both cultural depth and spiritual meaning. The pot is encrusted with turquoise chips.
Mary, who carved alongside her husband David Tsikewa from the 1940s–1960s, was known for delicate, soulful fetishes that carried on her family’s legacy. This 1970's pot continues that tradition, connecting the artistry of her father, her partnership with David, and her own unique touch. A timeless work of Zuni Pueblo heritage, it is both a meaningful cultural treasure and a striking addition to any collection.
